Advent Evenings at Saint Mary’s Church

Saint Mary’s Church, the home of Rhode Island’s oldest Catholic parish, welcomes visitors for quiet reflection during three Wednesday evenings of Advent. The church will be open from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on December 3, 10, and 17, offering a peaceful hour accompanied by meditative music. On December 10, St. Mary’s Director of Music, Kyle Medeiros, will perform on the parish’s historic pipe organ.
Guests are encouraged to spend time in the beautifully decorated sanctuary, light a candle, and appreciate the building’s Gothic Revival architecture and stained glass windows. Freewill offering envelopes will be available for anyone wishing to support the St. Mary’s Hot Lunch Program, which provides meals on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month.
Visitors should enter through the William Street side door accessed from Spring Street. A wheelchair accessible ramp is available at the breezeway entrance between the red brick rectory and its garage. The adjacent parking lot includes designated handicapped spaces, and the accessible restroom can be reached from the breezeway. Additional free parking is available in the church lots on William Street.
Saint Mary’s Casavant Frères pipe organ was originally installed in 1958. In 2016, it was transported to the Casavant workshop in Canada for a full restoration, then reinstalled in the renovated choir loft in spring 2017.
