The Newport Restoration Foundation’s “Telling Stories” walking tour traces Clarke Street’s role in the city’s cultural, economic, and social history, introducing the residents who lived, worked, and worshiped along this early thoroughfare. Presented with the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society as part of the A Matter of Truth—Newport initiative, the tour departs from the Vernon House at 46 Clarke Street on the third Saturday of the month, meeting July 19 and August 16, 2025.
Guides lead the group from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, rain or shine, over sidewalks that are sometimes uneven; a restroom is available at the starting point. Attendance is limited, with tickets priced at twenty dollars for general admission and fifteen dollars for Newport County residents.
