The Galvin Cello Quartet returns to Newport on July 13, 2025, for an 8:00 PM performance at The Breakers—following their sold-out recital-hall debut in 2024. Recent laurels include the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff Competition and first prize at the 2022 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, credentials that have propelled the ensemble to the forefront of the chamber-music scene.
Their Breakers program blends beloved classics with fresh voices. Highlights range from Vivaldi’s “Presto” from The Four Seasons and Mozart’s Sonata in D Major K. 381 to selections from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile. A centerpiece of the evening is the world premiere of Runaway Light, commissioned by Newport Classical from Canadian Indigenous composer-cellist Cris Derksen. Works by Beethoven, Debussy, Paganini, Gardel, and Andre Mehmari round out the set, showcasing the quartet’s flair for inventive arrangements and stylistic breadth.
Tickets are available in four tiers—Premier $110, Orchestra $95, Main $75, and Side/Rear $50—offering audiences multiple ways to experience this genre-spanning concert within the Gilded Age grandeur of The Breakers.
