Program Description
The first half opens with W.A. Mozart’s String Quartet in G major, KV 80—composed when Mozart was fourteen years old. The concert continues with Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 2 (“Company”), originally written for a theatrical adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s novella Company. After intermission, the Newport String Quartet performs Franz Schubert’s monumental String Quartet No. 13 in A minor, D 804 (“Rosamunde”), a work dedicated to Schubert’s friend and patron with thematic material drawn from the incidental music to the play Rosamunde.
