Charter Books and the Newport Historical Society proudly present Pulitzer Prize winner and #1 New York Times bestselling author Rick Atkinson for a special lecture event at Newport’s historic Colony House on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Rick Atkinson will discuss his acclaimed book, “The Fate of the Day: The War for America, Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston, 1777-1780,” focusing on the critical middle years of the American Revolution. This period, marked by uncertainty and fierce combat, saw George Washington’s forces precariously positioned between victory and defeat. Atkinson will also highlight Newport’s strategic occupation by British forces and the pivotal Battle of Rhode Island.
The event includes an engaging interview, followed by an audience Q&A session and a book signing. Each ticket includes a signed copy of Atkinson’s book, and additional signed copies and other works by the author will be available for purchase.
