The Newport Piccolo Simposio: Italian Influence in Newport

April 3, 2025 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

A special event will explore the profound Italian influence on Newport during the Gilded Age, showcasing how architecture, interiors, landscapes, and art collections across the city reflected Italian design traditions. From the Florentine-inspired interiors of Chateau-sur-Mer, crafted by artist Luigi Frullini, to Richard Morris Hunt’s grand Renaissance Genoa-style design of The Breakers, and Edward Berwind’s collection of Venetian masterpieces at The Elms, this program offers a deep dive into Newport’s rich artistic heritage.

The day includes morning lightning-round sessions, house tours, and a reception at Rosecliff (separately ticketed, with proceeds benefiting a scholarship fund). Video recordings will be available for in-person and virtual attendees.

Event Schedule:

  • 8:30 AM – Check-in at Rosecliff with continental breakfast
  • 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Morning lightning-round sessions at Rosecliff (30 minutes each)
