Barney Street Cemetery Tour | Newport’s Early Irish History ☘️
The Museum of Newport Irish History will host a guided tour of the circa 1828 Barney Street Cemetery on Saturday, March 22, 2025, led by local researcher and guide Steve Marino.
This 30-minute tour explores the final resting place of many of Newport’s early Irish immigrants and the site of Rhode Island’s first Catholic church. Visitors will learn about the cemetery’s historical significance and its role in Newport’s early Irish community.

The cemetery was restored in 1998-99 by the museum and continues to be maintained thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers and generous supporters.
